My mom told me about this program and about this little house being for rent.
Before LCHT we were bouncing from house to house, living with family members, it wasn’t working for us. It was a mess, we didn’t have any privacy at all.
We’ve been trying to live on our own for a while now and this is the first time we’ve been able to do it. Not having a rental history made finding a place difficult but LCHT was willing to work with us. Because we didn’t have any rental history we are on a 12-month probationary period. We’re going to stay in this house for a couple years and build up our rental history.
I have a system for staying on top of my finances. I make a list of what needs to be paid, bills and such, and whatever is left over is the money we can spend. That’s it.
For us, this house is about the same price as a 1-bedroom rental but here, my son has his own bedroom and a yard with enough space to run around and play. We have a washer and dryer and we’ve got family and friends living close by. I’m looking forward to taking the little one over to the East Lawrence Recreation Center.
The little one and my husband decided they would buy these flowers and this little fence for Mother’s Day. They really turned the space from a plain space into something better. My husband is a landscaper; he takes care of his mom’s flowers and he decided to do it here for me. The dog comes in and digs a bit but it’s working out okay. It’s my little Mother’s Day garden.
I would suggest the Lawrence Community Housing Trust program to anyone, it’s great!
